The winter semester’s first teaching workshop will focus on assessing teaching outcomes throughout the semester. It will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday 1.11.12 in room 10302, with beverages and light refreshments provided. Attendance is required for GTAs. The workshop topic and design draw on feedback from participants in Orientation this August and in recent teaching workshops. Participant feedback from Orientation and workshops suggests that research-based practices and more time for work with sample materials make for more productive sessions. Therefore workshop co-facilitators, Thomas Trimble, Whitney Hardin, and Shenika Hankerson, will present highlights from scholarship on strategies for assessing teaching outcomes throughout the semester, enabling instructors to respond to problems during the course, rather than learning of them through student evaluations of teaching . They will also illustrate how principles from this research inform class planning and will lead workshop attendees through activities to put these principles into practice. The workshop is relevant to all Composition Program courses.
